Blog Assignment #6: Carte Blanche

Meeting decisions

When I discovered the task for the last blog, I immediately felt that it would be difficult to find something good to write about. Something that I, sometimes, think is difficult is to take decisions. For example in cases like this, when you get a task where you are supposed to choose subject on your own it becomes much more difficult than receiving a specified subject to write about.

When I, on the other hand, finally have made a decision of something I work very hard to reach the goal. Maybe this is a reason that I think it is hard to take decisions; that I, for myself, have to succeed with it. Otherwise I become very disappointed on myself and think I have failed.

All the time we have to take decisions. Some are small and others big; some are important and affect life much, while others are quite insignificant. I can hesitate for a long while about trifles like which ice cream to buy or about the colour the socks I shall buy.

Newly, I had to take a quite big and important decision. I am finished with my education before this summer, and I newly was offered two different jobs. I know that it seem like a pleasant situation, but that doesn’t make it easier. I had to weigh the advantages against the disadvantages, both jobs were good and if I could would I like to take both of them. Of course was this impossible, so at the end I used the feeling in my stomach. Now I have taken a decision. What to do now is to choose where to live, since I have to move because the job is located more then 100 kilometres from Karlstad. After that, when I have moved, I must choose how to furnish, which curtains to use and many other things. Of course it is exiting and fun, but also difficult.

In the society of today there appear more and more possibilities to chose, everything from which company to deliver the telephone subscription or electric subscription to how to place money for your pension. Sometimes I think it would be nice to be spared of the demand for taking decisions. It would be good if someone made my decisions, or that there only where one alternative. But on the other hand I think it is good that we have the possibility to control things by our selves, and that it is up to each one of us to form our life. I really think that it is good that there are alternatives and that we can do as we like to. So give us more possibilities of choices, but please – can someone make my decisions?

Blog Assignment #5: Seen Any Good Films Lately?
I do not watch films very often, much due to of lack of time because it is so much to do at school. But I saw a film recently, Beck- The lawyer. The lawyer is a Swedish film, the twentieth in the Criminal series about a police named Martin Beck.

The film is about the murder of the famous lawyer Patrik Hansson. Hansson is murdered in his apartment, when he has a young woman there. When the murder comes, the woman manages to escape to the bathroom where she have here handbag with a mobile phone in it. She calls the police; they come to the apartment immediately. When Beck’s police group is contacted to solve the murder, they find a clear motive. It shows up that Hansson has been involved in a case where a company was prosecuted for environmental crime. When searching more about Hanssons living, they discover that he has connections with the lower world in the society and the motive maybe isn’t so clear anyway.

I think that the film was a quite ordinary “Beck film”, but since I like those film I did appreciate the Lawyer. Mikael Persbrandt makes a great role as the arrogant, but very good police, Gunwald Larsson. The discussions between Beck and his neighbour are, as usual, very good. The comments of the neighbour are very good at hitting the mark.

I recommend watching Beck- The lawyer, especially for you that like a good Swedish crime.

Blog Assignment #4: The State of the Planet

The life of humans has, as we all know, a big influence on the Earth. The humans contributes to environmental destroying, this has influence on the Earth. These problems will never make us exterminate the life. Life will always stay in any kind, even if there is an ozone layer or not. But however it is a big catastrophe for the life of humans, and our existence is harmed of how we use our resources. Our way if living can contribute to a shortening of the existence of humans (and other animals that is dependent of, for example, the ozone layer). They are many that predict that we are in a perilous situation. This is, of course, ominous and many minds of humans are shake of different predictions about the ruin if the humanity. I believe, of course, that we have to think about this and immediately do something about the problem of environmental destroying. The crux is that efforts are necessary from the entire world, which not is easy to realize.

So the question is how to make the population of the world realize this?

Blog Assignment #3: Video Game Addiction

What with computer games fascinates so many humans? Do they think that their lives are so boring that they must go into a virtual world? Is it really healthy?

It has to be something that catches so many humans. I personally do believe that it not is healthy to play too much computer games. It can lead to deteriorated social relations and health problems because it implies much sedentary and indoor life. Children who play very much can, for example, believe it is alright to fight to get what they want.

Yes, there are advantages with some computer games. There are games where the player is supposed to solve problems, which can increase your brain capacity. It can also be a way to get in contact with other with same interest and make new friends. I believe, though, that it is important to limit the playing and decide a maximum time of it. Parents should, definitely, make sure that their kids not play too much. The parents should also control what kind of games the kid plays; games with too much violence may be injurious. I believe that playing games too much can lead to an increase if violence among, for example, individuals with mental problems.

It probably is difficult to decide when the playing is taking too big part in your life, but a tip can be to ask people in the surrounding about their opinion. Do they think that you play too much is it a good idea to think over it. If you feel that your social life starting to get worse, and/or that you get health problems due to the playing can it be a sign of playing too much.

So, you who play much computer games, make sure that the playing isn’t taken over your life!

Blog Assignment #2: The Private Diary Gone Public

What makes people start a blog where they can talk at length about their view of the world? The question is very interesting, and it is amazing how the phenomena with blogs have increased so much the past years. There must be something special that makes people tell things about their lives to the public. Do people have a need of confirmation and want to be “seen” by others? Or do they believe they have knowledge which they want to share with other people? It is even maybe because they want to “sell” themselves, to let other people know about them and for example increase their chances to new job offers?

Of course is it not possible to generally tell why people make blogs, the reason differs between individuals. But it is clear that it is one of many effects of the information society of today. It is nowadays possible to do many things through the internet. Some examples are shopping, communicate with others in different ways, pay bills, search information, and many other things. So why not have virtual diary?

Blog Assignment #1: University Studies

Why did I choose to study at the university?

The answer maybe isn’t so obvious, and the answers are more than one. One reason for me is that I think it is fun to study; it is very interesting and profitable to learn new things. Another reason is that I knew it were a lack in educated persons in my education area, GIS (geographical information systems), and the development is moving forward and the technique is implemented in new trades. This is raising the chances partly to more easily get a job, but also to have the chance to choose more between different jobs. I also think that my subject is very fun and interesting; this makes it much easier!

I like the thought that it probably will be easier to change place of work after some years when I have an education, because it is probably more attractive for the companies to hire me. I like change and probably don’t would like to work at same place for very long time.

I really can say that I never had regretted that I started studying. It has given me much knowledge in the subject, but more important is that I have developed enormous as a person in a completely different way than I would if I had continued to work with same thing as I did before my studies. The student life is also very funny, and I will miss it so much this summer when I have finished my studying. But I will probably continue to study at any distance course or evening course now and then, just for my own sake.
